Eublemma rufiplaga Hampson
Eublemma rufiplaga Hampson, 1910, Cat. Lepid. Phalaenae Br. Mus., 10: 72.
Diagnosis
The moths are a medium purplish grey and of typical Eublemma shape and build. The fasciation is distinctive, there being three fine, dark, extremely irregular, almost zigzag lies on the forewing, running more or less ‘parallel’ to each other and flexed sharply subcostally. The medial and antemedial are stronger than the rest, with the subcostal double loop of the medial being just distal to the reniform, which is large, enclosing an area of ground colour. The fascia on the hindwing are much less clearly defined, and all wings have a submarginal row of minute black dots and darker marginal fringes. See also the next two species.
Taxonomic note
Poole (1989) listed the species under Eublemmoides.
Geographical range
Borneo, Java.
Habitat preference
Bornean material is restricted to the holotype, taken by A.R. Wallace in Sarawak, probably in the lowlands, and a worn male taken in heath forest on a river terrace at 150m, west of the Melinau Gorge in Sarawak.
Biology
Two Javan specimens in BMNH are labelled as having fed as larvae on Coccidae on coconut.
