Diagnosis and taxonomic note

This species is related to richardi, quadripunctata and latistriga in the form of the male genitalia, but differs in facies. The ground colour is a rich fawn, somewhat as in  perversicolor, but the forewing postmedial is irregular, sinuous, rather than oblique and angled, the only straight section being where it meets the costa at a narrowly acute angle. The discal mark is prominent, dark purplish brown, joined to the costa by the oblique interior of the medial fascia. There is a small dark purplish brown triangle just subapically on the costa, marking the anterior end of the submarginal, which is usually also represented by a series of smaller marks of the same colour just posterior to the triangle. The distal margins of all wings are also narrowly purplish brown. The male genitalia have the central process of the valve tongue-like, outcurved with the apex rounded, the sides more parallel than in perversicolor and the New Caledonian rufogalactea Holloway (1979: 435); the latter has a much larger submarginal triangle in the forewing costa, and the submarginal is generally more distant from the margin. Poole (1989) placed galactea in Smicroloba.
