Corgatha zonalis Walker
Corgatha zonalis Walker, [1859] 1858, List Specimens lepid. Insects Colln Br. Mus., 16: 216
Ausinza aequa Walker, 1864, J. Proc. Linn. Soc. (Zool.), 7: 192.
Diagnosis
The wings are reddish grey-brown crossed by fine, pale ochreous postmedials, that on the forewing straight, with a fainter but similarly straight antemedial basal to it. The discal spots are dark. There are traces of much fainter, but also paler, zigzag submarginals.
Taxonomic note
Holloway (1979) suggested that the species might be related to C. figuralis Walker (Queensland, New Caledonia), having a similar facies and male genitalia. However the costal and saccular processes of the valves in zonalis are shorter, and the saccus is not excavated apically.
Geographical range
Oriental tropics to Borneo, Philippines.
Habitat preference
Three specimens and the type of aequa were taken in Sarawak by A.R. Wallace, probably in the lowlands. More recent material consists of single specimens from: disturbed coastal forest at Seria in Brumas; from disturbed lowland forest at Semongok near Kuching; from G. Kinabalu without precise data.
