Corgatha luteifascia Holloway sp. n.
♂♂ 7-8mm. This species resembles obliquidisca in facies but is much smaller with only faintly darker, less extensive, more diffuse discal markings; the marking of the forewing disc is divided into two. The irregular yellow postmedial of the hindwing is slightly more developed than in obliquidisca, particularly at the dorsum, but this is variable. The male genitalia are very similar to those of obliquidisca, but the valves are more slender and tapering distal to the saccular process, and the saccus is relatively shorter.
Holotype ♂
SARAWAK: Gunong Mulu Nat. Park, R.G.S. Exped. 1977-8 (J.D.Holloway et al.), Site 25, April, G. Api, 900m, 427550, lower montane forest, BM noctuid slide 21173.
Paratype ♂
As holotype.
Taxonomic note
A related species (slide 21072) occurs in Peninsular Malaysia at about 1000m (Bukit Kutu, Larut Hills). It is of similar size to luteifascia but the postmedials are more extensively yellow on fore- and hindwings, with associated zones of orange, resembling somewhat C. vermilionis sp. n. The male genitalia have narrower valves, and the saccus is larger as in obliquidisca.
Geographical range
Borneo, Sumatra, Bali (slide 21090).
Habitat preference
Both Bornean specimens were taken in lower montane forest on limestone. A short series from Bali was taken from altitudes of about 1000m and 1500m.
