Corgatha pseudominor Holloway sp. n.
Corgatha rubecula Warren, 1913, Gross-Schmett. Erde, 11: 262.
♂♂, ♀ 7-8mm. The size and facies is as in C. minor Moore (Sri Lanka), a reddish brown as in implexata but smaller and distinguished by semicircular white spots on the costa at one third and two thirds. There is a smaller white spot near the base of the costa, and often another one subapically. However, the male genitalia have the uncus slender as in typical Corgatha, rather than short and somewhat bulbous as in minor (slide 21062). The valves have the long, straight costal spine of minor reduced to a slight, obtuse angle in a relatively basal position. The saccular process is as in minor, triangular from an oblique base as illustrated. The apex of this process is near the base of the costal process in minor, but well distal to the costal angle in pseudominor. C. costinotalis Moore (Himalaya) has similar facies but the male genitalia of costinotalis are more like C. minuta Bethune-Baker (New Guinea), but the valve processes arise slightly more distally than in minor or pseudominor, but with a strong costal spine as in the former. In both, the saccular process is more narrowly and less obliquely based and generally longer.
Holotype ♂
BRUNEI: Seria, secondary and coastal veg., 16.2.80 ( Lt. Col. M.G. Allen), BM noctuid slide 20256.
Paratypes
- 1♂ SABAH: Brumas, P. caribaea, 14.ii.1991 ( Chey Vun Khen)
- 1♀ (slide 20741) BORNEO: Sarawak, ( Wallace), 74-69
- 1♂ (abdomen missing) Labuan, BORNEO, ( Pryer).
Geographical range
Borneo.
Habitat preference
All four specimens seen suggest an association with disturbed lowland forest: one collected in Sarawak by A.R. Wallace; one from the island of Labuan; one from secondary and coastal forest in Brunei; one from a Pinus caribaea plantation in the lowlands of Sabah near Brumas. The fourth is voucher for seven taken in that plantation and singletons from Eucalyptus and *Paraserianthes *plantations (Chey, 1994).
