Corgatha leucosticta Hampson
Corgatha leucosticta Hampson, 1910, Cat. Lepid. Phalaenae Br. Mus., 10: 301.
Diagnosis
This is a rather purplish red species when fresh, with finely punctate white fasciae postmedially, submarginally and marginally. The first two are stronger at the forewing costa, the submarginal having a distinctive white chevron there. The postmedials are irregular, rather sinuous in course, the submarginals much less so. The forewing has a similar antemedial, and the costa is slightly irrorated with white.
Geographical range
Singapore, Borneo.
Habitat preference
This is probably a species of lowland forest, with four specimens taken at Ulu Dusun, 30 miles west of Sandakan, one at Semongok near Kuching, and one in alluvial forest at 70m near the foot of G. Mulu. Chey (1994) recorded several from plantations of Acacia mangium and Gmelina arborea near Brumas in the lowlands of Sabah.
Biology
Robinson et al. (2001) noted that a species near leucosticta had been recorded as feeding on Theobroma (Sterculiaceae), but no indication was given whether this referred to defoliation or lichen-grazing.
