Corgatha vermilionis Holloway sp. n.

♂ 7mm, ♀♀ 6mm. This species has a facies consisting of orange-red and black marking on a yellow ground, with the costa, head, thorax and a narrow submarginal zone on each wing shaded pale grey or fawn. The medial zone of all wings has an area of clear yellow but that on the forewing is only from the dorsum to about the centre. The postmedial fasciae are distal to this, separated from it by a narrow zone of red. These also consist of ground colour, their edges with some black marking. The forewing postmedial is zigzag, curved in course, whereas that of the hindwing is more regular and almost straight. Distal to the postmedials are broader bands of orange, then red (narrower on the forewing). The grey submarginal zone follows, edged distad by a row of fine black dashes, then a moderate orange band followed by a sequence of fine yellow and orange ones to the margin. The grey band on the hindwing is narrow, regular, whereas that on the forewing is broader over the costal half, with a tooth at one third from the costa. The forewing also has an irregular, sinuous antemedial. There is some variation in size and the extent of red suffusion medially, this being intense in one of the lowland female specimens and reduced in the montane male specimen, which also has a more irregular hindwing postmedial that is more strongly invested in black. The male genitalia are of the Zitna type, with no costal process on the valves, but a strong saccular one. The valves are very much shorter than in obliquidisca and luteifascia, but with a much stronger, spine-like saccular process in a relatively distal position. The juxta is circular.

Borneo.

Habitat preference

The species occurs in dry heath forest on sand in the lowlands and in an area of montane scrub and forest amid limestone pinnacle karst.
