Corgatha implexata Walker
Palara [sic] implexata Walker, 1862, List Specimens lepid. Insects Colln Br. Mus., 24: 1090.
Diagnosis
The species is a similar size to niveicosta Hampson (see below) but a duller, slightly darker brown, with the forewing costa more completely but more dully pale. There are similar irregularly punctate postmedials in both species, the spots consisting of white dots surrounded basad by black. There are black marks on the distal margin in implexata but these incorporate white in niveicosta.
Taxonomic note
There are externally similar specimens from the Philippines (slide 21123), New Guinea to the Bismarcks (slide 21061). The former has relatively shorter valves and, within these, relatively shorter costal and saccular processes, the costal one only about half the length of that in typical material. The latter has the costal process of the valve straight, rather than curved, and it runs closer to the dorsal margin of the cucullus.
Geographical range
Sundaland.
Habitat preference
This is an infrequent species of lowland forest, including plantation forest (Chey, 1994), recorded up to 500m. During the Mulu survey, most specimens were taken in forest on limestone (250m on G. Api).
Biology
Robinson et al. (2001) listed a record of the larva feeding on Hevea (rubber; Euphorbiaceae) in Peninsular Malaysia, but this does not necessarily mean defoliation.
