Arctornis satinata Toxopeus comb. n.syn. n.
Redoa satinata Toxopeus, 1948, Treubia, 19: 460.
Diagnosis
Toxopeus described the forewing as undulating satiny white, thinly scaled, with a small blackish discal spot. The costa is buff distally and the fringes ‘drab’. The valve is ‘clumsy’, the outer edge cut off obliquely and terminating in a knotty excrescence beneath. The harpe is situated against the upper half of the valve, very spinous, terminating in a sharp needle. The uncus is as in erasmia.
Holloway desription of ‘liguluncus’
♂ 17mm. This is a satiny white species like a small perfecta, though with a minute black discal dot on the forewing as in submarginata. The frons has a pinkish rufous square below the antennae much as in galene, but with a faintly paler centre and a slight tooth at the centre of its ventral margin extending into the white. The palps are a strong rufous yellow externally, and the legs are spotted as in the prasioneura group. However, the male genitalia have a large, tongue-like uncus as in submarginata, relatively longer and more parallel-sided than in the prasioneura group. The valves are relatively short, the distal margin oblique, the harpe increasingly, but still gently downcurved to the apex where, dorsally, there is a small triangular flange.
Geographical range
Borneo.
Taxonomic notes
The holotype of A. satinata Toxopeus has been examined. The genitalia (Fig 114) indicate it to be conspecific with liguluncus Holloway. Therefore liguluncus is a junior synonym of satinata, syn. n.
The holotype of A. erasmia Toxopeus has genitalia (Fig 116) similar in uncus and valve features to those of satinata, as indicated in the description above. Further material is needed to assess whether it is a variant of satinata or a close sister‑species. The distal margin of the valve has the costal and ventral corners more angular, the latter more produced. The apex of the harpe is not longer than the ventral corner of the valve apex, and its apex is distinctly swollen, though still asymmetrically acute.
Taxonomic Note
