Lophoptera huma Swinhoe

Diagnosis

This is a small species with a hyaline basal zone to the hindwing and distinctive dark subbasal and broad marginal zones to the otherwise pale brown or greyish forewing; the reniform is pinkish, ringed cream-white delimited by black distally and basally; the marginal zone consists of two fine brown lines, sinuous, a broad mauve-grey band containing black flecks, a fine cream line followed by a broader brown band before a paler marginal band containing a row of transverse dark brown dashes.

Some specimens may have the dark areas more heavily invested with pink or mauve.

Geographical range

Thailand, Borneo, Sulawesi, Ceram, New Guinea.

Habitat preference

During the Mulu survey the species was taken mainly in lower and upper montane forest on both G. Mulu and G. Api, but also at 250m on G. Api and the Long Pala site overlooking the canopy of alluvial forest from a limestone outcrop.
