Stictoptera denticulata Walker, 1865, List Specimens lepid. Insects Colln Br. Mus. 33: 919.
Lophoptera denticulata brunneostriata Holloway, 1976: 19, Fig. 130.
Diagnosis
The dull brown forewings with longitudinal dark striation distinguish this species.
The dorsal processes to the valves are more prominent that in most congeners, and upcurved.
Taxonomic Notes
The sister-species is L. albistellata Warren from New Guinea and Buru.
This species is larger, darker, the forewing with an irregular white submarginal.
The hindwing is more clearly hyaline over the basal half.
The male genitalia are similar but the uncus, whilst long, is more robust and squared off apically.
Geographical range
Burma; Peninsular Malaysia, Sumatra, Borneo.
Habitat preference
On G. Kinabalu singletons were taken at 1050m and 1760m. During the Mulu survey the species was found frequently in upper montane forest localities on G. Mulu (around 1700-1800m) and once at 250m in rainforest on the lower slopes of the limestone G. Api.
