Diagnosis
This species has duller, rather more speckly, vinous red-brown forewings than fuscosa but has similar fasciation and brown hindwings.
The male genitalia have the aedeagus vesica more elongate, with distinct basal and distal lobes separated by a constriction.
The cluster of cornuti is central to one side of the distal lobe.
Taxonomic Notes
The holotype listed by Kobes for bironga matches the two other taxa closely in facies and genitalia (slide 17820). This facies type is, however, best represented by the specimens attributed to dohora in his Plate V. The specimens indicated to be bironga in that plate match the holotype of dohora in facies, and the text confirms that dohora has straighter fasciation than bironga. X. minima Warren comb. n. (Penang) has forewing facies like a more vinous version of obvia, but the bilobed aedeagus vesica indicates a relationship to fuscomarginata. The cornuti in the cluster are more robust and strongly curved in minima.
Geographical range
Burma (Mergui), Peninsular Malaysia, Singapore, Sumatra, Borneo.
Habitat preference
Most older material seen is from the lowlands, e.g. Sandakan in Sabah and Bidi and Paku in Sarawak.
Only one specimen was taken in recent surveys, from dipterocarp forest at 250m on G. Api.
