Carea lentilineata Hampson; Holloway, 1976: 26.

Xenochroa calva Warren & lentilineata Hampson; Kobes, 1997: 122, 131.

Diagnosis

The wings are a pale, dull orange-fawn, the hindwings slightly paler.

The forewings are crossed by two straight, fine, faintly darker fasciae, and there is a small discal dot.

The distal and dorsal fringes of the forewing are also slightly darker.

Taxonomic Notes

The male genitalia of flavidirubra and lentilineata are inseparable from those of calva; flavidirubra would appear to be just a small specimen thereof.

A particularly distinctive shared feature is a small, ovate, scobinate sclerotisation subbasally in the vesica.

The specimen illustrated by Kobes (1997) in Plate IV: 141 is not calva, but probably purpurea.

Geographical range

Sundaland.

Habitat preference

Three out of four specimens taken in recent surveys have been from montane forest: at 900m on Bukit Monkobo, Sabah; at 1050m at Kundasan on the south slopes of G. Kinabalu; at 1618m on Bukit Retak in Brunei.

The single lowland specimen was from forest at 60-90m in the vicinity of Labi in Brunei.
