Scopula sp. ?sybillaria Swinhoe

Diagnosis

This is a small, rather greyish fawn species with the fasciae over the central part of the wing weak, those more distally broader, giving the margin of the wing a grey-clouded appearance with finer pale fasciae within it.

Taxonomic Notes

The identification is tentative. Facies features are similar, and the male genitalia share the bifid nature and bilateral asymmetry of the sclerotised arms of the valves, but these are more acute in typical **sybillaria. The cerata of the eighth sternite are long, incurved, equal in sybillaria but with the left only half the length of the right in the Bornean male.

Geographical Range

W. China, Hong Kong; ?Borneo.

Habitat Preference

The single male was taken in hill dipterocarp forest at 300m in the Ulu Temburong, Brunei.
