Diagnosis
This is one of the larger Bornean Scopula, distinguished by variable grey fasciation and suffusion on a whitish ground.
Taxonomic Notes
Specimens taken at altitude on G. Kinabalu are larger, paler than those from the lowlands (both illustrated), but are females only. Males will be needed to determine whether sibling species are involved.
S. spissitarsata* Warren from Sumatra is related to pauperata, having similarly bifid sclerotised arms to the valves of the male genitalia.

Borneo.
Habitat Preference
The species is common in lowland forest but occurs infrequently up to 1930m on G. Kinabalu (see taxonomic note).
