Hyposada postalbata Holloway sp. n.
♂♂ 14-15mm. This species is one of a complex previously referred to postvittata Moore (Sri Lanka), but readily separated on characters of the male genitalia and sometimes on facies. The colour scheme of the wings is as in the previous two species, perhaps a little brighter, but the wings themselves are less elongate. The forewing fasciae are more irregular and much less oblique, and stop short of the costa. The hindwing has a prominent, straight central fascia, with white distally and black basally as in astona but more emphatic. The forewing discal spot is often white-centred. This new Sundanian species is characterised by a broadly white (rather than fawn as in postvittata) forewing costa and a broader white fascia on the hindwing that is edged slightly less darkly basad. In the male genitalia the uncus has a somewhat rectangular process dorsally near its base that is not seen in other members of the complex. The costal structure of the valves shows only slight bilateral asymmetry, that on the left side is slightly larger and more robust than that on the right, each resembling in shape the sting of a scorpion. A species from Peninsular Malaysia (slide 21563) and Bali (slide 20676) has facies more as in postvittata but with more prominent dark submarginal patches subcostally and subdorsally adjacent to the hindwing postmedial; the valves show greater bilateral asymmetry in their processes, these having a more bulbous base, with the distal projection of the left-hand one much larger. The genitalia of material from Sulawesi (slide 20680), New Guinea (slide 20678) and the Solomons (slide 20652) suggest that one species occurs over their range, the costal process giving rise to two slender arms distally, those on the left more robust (one bifid in the Solomons specimen). This last species is probably that recorded for Australia by Nielsen et al. (1996). Females are rare in collections, but the genitalia also may show differences; a specimen from Peninsular Malaysia (slide 21223) that is probably postalbata is very similar to postvittata (slide 20679), but one from Sulawesi (slide 20680) has a larger, less tapered ductus and a larger corpus bursae with a less coiled base.
