Acidalia posticaria Walker, 1866, List Specimens lepid. Insects Colln Br. Mus., 35: 1633.
Arasada fraterculata Moore, 1888, Descr. new Indian lepid. Insects Colln W.S. Atkinson: 290.
Oruza pallescens Hampson, 1894, Fauna Br. India, Moths, 2: 350.
Diagnosis
This is a distinctly larger species than astona with a slightly more produced and often falcate forewing apex and an acute hindwing apex. The postmedial fascia of the hindwing lacks a black component and remains straight, rather than curving slightly basad, at its anterior end.
Taxonomic note
H. kadooriensis Galsworthy (S. China, N.E. Himalaya) is a very similar species but has a rounded apex to the hindwing. The most dorsal process of the valve is very broad, and the base of the uncus lacks the bunches of slender spines seen in hydrocampata. The African taxon in this complex has not been investigated here.
Geographical range
Indo-Australian tropics east to New Guinea and Queensland.
Habitat preference
Chey (1994) recorded four specimens from Acacia mangium and Paraserianthes falcataria plantations in the lowlands of Sabah. There is also older material from Tenom in Sabah, Kuching in Sarawak (both areas of habitation), and S.E. Kalimantan.
