Diagnosis and taxonomic note

The forewings have a diagnostic pale yellow patch subdorsally, usually large. This patch is in a much more posterior position than in N. guttulata (See Nygmia guttula Snellen comb.n) and ‘Euproctis’ viridoculata Holloway (See “Euproctis”; viridoculata Holloway). The male genitalia are consistent with placement in Nygmia. The aedeagus has a long spur as in guttulata.

Geographical range

Sumatra, Borneo, Peninsular Malaysia.

Habitat preference

The species is rare but with a wide range of altitude. Single specimens have been taken at 300m and 450m in the Ulu Temburong of Brunei, two from 250m in lowland forest on the slopes of the limestone G. Api, one from 1618m on Bukit Pagon, and one from 1930m on G. Kinabalu.
