Diagnosis

In fades this species is similar to peperites, though lacking the diffuse fascia on the forewing, and Bornean exitela, particularly when worn. It is most reliably distinguished from the male genitalia, where the dorsal arm of thevalve is diagnostically square-ended, with stout spines at each corner. The uncus has lateral flanges. Females could also be confused with those of peperites and the next species, but have the ostium set between crinkly plates that together form a heart shape.

Taxonomic note

The male genitalia of funeralis and conistrae are indistinguishable, hence the synonymy above.

Geographical range

Sundaland.

Habitat preference

Only two males have been taken in recent Bornean surveys: from lowland alluvial forest near Long Pala on a limestone outcrop at 70m; from lower montane forest at 1000m on G. Mulu. A female has been taken in the latter locality.
