Diagnosis

Both this and Callopistria callopistrioides Moore have rich dark brown forewings; the hindwings are bordered a similar colour but have the basal half dull yellow. Callopistria callopistrioides Moore has the pale forewing markings more prominent and more clearly defined; the submarginal white flecks are much more extensive in callopistrioides; in thalpophiloides they are restricted to the anterior sixth of the wing.

Indian Subregion, Sundaland, Philippines, Sulawesi, New Guinea (ssp. major Warren).

Habitat preference

The two specimens taken during recent surveys are from upper montane forest on Bukit Retak (1618m), and at 300m in lowland forest at Ulu Temburong, Brunei.
