Diagnosis

This is a very variable species and may prove to be a complex; Fijian males have shorter, broader valves than Bornean ones, but a full survey of valve shape has not been undertaken. The complex, including montana Holloway, is distinguished best by the extensively cornute, small, globular aedeagus vesica. The reniform tends to be whiter posteriorly but shorter than in trilineata or exotica; the antemedial is curved rather than angular, and broken anteriorly. The male forewing is lightened by areas of pale brown that are absent in the female.

Biology

The species has been reared from ‘fern frond’ (unpublished CIE records).

Geographical range

Indo-Australian tropics.

Habitat preference

The species is infrequent from the lowlands to almost 2000m, taken mostly in forested localities.
