Diagnosis

This species has deep maroon-brown forewings with the typical markings of the genus only weakly picked out in mauve. It is closely related to trilineata Walker which has much stronger markings, particularly the post-medial, which is much closer to the rather linear submarginal.

Geographical range

Indo-Australian tropics.

Biology

The larva was illustrated by Mutuura et al. (1965) and described by Gardner (1946b). There may be some variation as the former showed a dark brown larva, the latter described a green one. The descriptions agree on the presence of paired paradorsal inclined lines an each segment, giving the back a herring-bone effect (obscure in the brown larva), and a fine white spiracular line. Miyata(1983) gave Pteridium as a host-plant.
