Sauris mesilauensis Holloway

Sauris mesilauensis Holloway, 1976: 73.

Diagnosis

This species was originally described from a single female but recent surveys have yielded three males that match it closely in forewing facies, albeit with heavier brown fasciation subbasally, medially and in the marginal zone. It is similar to S. denigrata Warren but the marginal zone of the forewing is more heavily shaded brown in both sexes, though this shading weakens in the zone posterior to the anal vein. The male hindwing has a broad, rather rounded lobe to the distal margin, and is diagnostically darker over the dorsal half.

Geographical Range

Borneo, Sulawesi (Univ. Mus. Amsterdam).

Habitat Preference

The holotype is from 1500m on G. Kinabalu. The males are from 1500m on G. Api, 1790m on G. Mulu and 1670m on Bukit Pagon, mostly in upper montane forest.
