Sauris denigrata Warren or close, sensu Holloway, 1976: 73.

Diagnosis

In facies this species could be confused with S. denigrata, but the forewing in both sexes has a strong triple brown band just distal to a broad pale band that contains the discal spot. This spot and the rest of the fasciae are green, though there is a row of brown dashes at the wing margin. The central element of the triple band is broader than the other two. The hindwings are grey-brown, that of the male having a lobed distal margin, the narrow central lobes being invested with darker scales.

The male genitalia have, relative to those of denigrata, a much smaller distal costal process on the valve but a much larger, more produced setose distal marginal area (somewhat corematous: folded in in Fig 321, but out in Holloway (1976: fig. 522)).

Geographical range

Peninsular Malaysia, Borneo, Java.

Habitat preference

The only Bornean specimen, a male, is from montane forest at 1660m on G. Kinabalu. The specimens from elsewhere in the range are also from montane localities. Two females from 1150m on G. Emas in the Crocker Range may also be of auricula (colln Herbulot).
