Sauris denigrata Warren
Remodes (?) denigrata Warren, 1897, Novit. zool., 4: 66.
Sauris lineosa Moore or close, sensu Holloway, 1976: 73.
Diagnosis
See the previous species. The female has the forewings less fasciated brown, particularly subbasally and marginally. In the male the basal fasciation is still green, but the marginal and submarginal zones are irregularly marked with brown. The distal lobe of the hindwing is acute and a distinctly darker grey than the rest of the wing.
Taxonomic Notes
The tentative identification of a male specimen as lineosa by Holloway (1976) was with reference to Sundanian specimens associated with the holotype female (Khasis) in the BMNH series. This female has forewing facies much as in S
bicolor* Warren, described from a male also from the Khasis, and probably conspecific. The other females in the series, including the holotype of the currently synonymised S
normis* Hampson, are probably not conspecific with lineosa, perhaps females of S. hirudinata.
Geographical Range
Peninsular Malaysia, Sumatra, Borneo.
Habitat Preference
The male is from 1930m on G. Kinabalu, but the females are from lower altitudes, the only reliably identified Bornean one being from Bidi in Sarawak. There is a worn female from 250m on the limestone G. Api that may also be denigrata.
