Diagnosis and taxonomic notes

This and P. salutaris have very similar facies, the males without modification of the forewing near the posterior angle of the cell. P. salutaris is considerably larger. Both have the labides of the male genitalia only partially fused and, in the female, a serrate band of sclerotisation that runs longitudinally through both neck and bulb of the bursa. The valves of the male are narrower in **vernacularia, only setose dorsally to a longitudinal ridge rather than throughout. The aedeagus is basally bulbous with numerous cornuti in vernacularia and several smaller acute cornuti in salutaris. The female genitalia differ markedly as illustrated.

Habitat Preference

Only one specimen has been taken in recent surveys, from 1618m on Bukit Retak in Brunei, but the original material and that from Penang are probably from lower altitudes.
