Diagnosis

The forewing is distinctly triangular, whitish, with a broad, oblique, dark brown band postmedially.

There are also faint antemedial markings and a pale brown marginal shade.

In the male abdomen the apodemes of the eighth segment are rather short, broad and widely spaced on both tergite and sternite.

Geographical range

Indo-Australian tropics from the Indian Subregion to Japan, the Ryukyus (Inoue, 2001) Sundaland and the Philippines, recurring in Australia.

Habitat preference

In recent surveys, two specimens have been taken in disturbed coastal forest in Brunei and two in an area of primary and secondary dipterocarp forest at Poring (about 600m) on the eastern slopes of G. Kinabalu.

Biology

Host records (Piepers & Snellen, 1904; Robinson et al., 2001) are for Fimbristylis (Cyperaceae) and Ziziphus (Rhamnaceae).
