Diagnosis

The forewings are pale grey with a broad, slightly angled medial band of blackish brown that extends between the antemedial and postmedial fasciae.

There is also a broken, irregular submarginal that is paler, greyer.

Taxonomic Notes

The typical subspecies has the forewing ground a darker grey, and the medial band is blacker.

The genitalia have the saccus more pointed apically, and the harpe is more hooked.

Geographical range

N.E. Himalaya; Borneo, Java (slide 17612), Bali (ssp. taeniatoides).

Habitat preference

The holotype of taeniatoides is from the Kinabalu area.

Three further specimens have been taken in recent surveys, all from lowland dipterocarp forest: at 300m in the Ulu Temburong of Brunei; at 30m in Ulu Dusun, near Sandakan in Sabah; at 300m in riverine forest near Tawau Hill in Sabah (in ZM, Univ.

Amsterdam).
