Maxates variegata Holloway sp. n.

Diagnosis

♂♂ 13-14mm.

The general appearance and fasciation is as in melancholica or marculenta, but with the ground colour suffused paler such that the discal markings and basal green edging to the postmedials is more conspicuous.

The male eighth sternite terminates in a narrow central sclerotised lobe.

The genitalia have the ventral process in a relatively basal position, apically bifid, and there is a weak semicircular process on the sacculus.

SARAWAK: Gunung Mulu Nat. Park, R.G.S Exped. 1977-8 (J.D. Holloway et al.) Site 2, January, Camp 4, Mulu, 1790m, 452463, montane (moss) forest.

1 ♂ as holotype; 1 ♂ general data as holotype but Site 5, January, Camp 4, Mulu 1780m, 451463, low upper montane forest, BM geometrid slide 10684.

Geographical range

Borneo.

Habitat preference

All material is from upper montane forest.
