Diagnosis
In the commoner Bornean form, both sexes resemble a larger version of female submonstrata with less speckling over the basal half of the wings above and more clearly defined medial fasciae below. The pale marks in the submarginal band are larger, diffusing to the margin, particularly at the wing apex. The specimen recorded from Kinabalu by Holloway (1976) resembles acutaria from the Himalaya and elsewhere in Sundaland in having the fasciae on the underside and their ‘ghosts’ on the upperside much reduced, narrow but still sharply defined, the forewing postmedial and submarginal mainly separate. No differences could be observed in the male genitalia which resembled those of specimens from the Himalaya and Java: the angular shape of the valve ventral subapical flange is diagnostic.

N.E. Himalaya, Sumatra, Java, Borneo.
Habitat Preference
This is an uncommon species, recorded from the lowlands to 1500m. During the Mulu survey it was mostly encountered on the limestone Gunung Api.
