Eugnathia jugosa Swinhoe comb. n.
Cerynea jugosa Swinhoe, 1902, Ann. Mag. nat. Hist. (7), 9: 170.
Eugnathia purpureogrisea Warren, 1913, Gross-Schmett. Erde, 11: 289.
Diagnosis
The forewing facies resembles that of cithara to some extent, particularly the strong curvature to the blackish posterior component of the forewing costal band. This lacks a cleft at the discal mark. The costal band is generally narrower, and the submarginal is not so conspicuously paler within it. The hindwing postmedial is more irregular over its dorsal half (more or less straight in cithara).
Taxonomic note
Two specimens from N.E. Himalaya (slides 20653, 20725) are externally very similar except there is a broader, greyer patch at the very apex of the forewing. The male genitalia have a slight costal process to the valves, and the saccular processes are unequally and asymmetrically bilobed.
Geographical range
Peninsular Malaysia, Borneo, Timor, Philippines, Sulawesi, India.
Habitat preference
Only two Bornean specimens have been located, with data no more precise than ‘Sarawak’ and Telang-Siong.
