Chrysocraspeda abhadraca Walker

Diagnosis

The forewings are distinctively triangular. Both fore- and hindwing are dark red with pale yellow fringes and subbasal and submarginal rows of white patches.

Geographical Range

Indian Subregion, Peninsular Malaysia, Sumatra, Borneo.

Habitat Preference

The species is montane. It has been taken infrequently between 1500m and 1760m on G. Kinabalu, and also singly at 1670m on Bukit Pagon in Brunei.

Biology

Bell (MS) recorded the biology in S. India. The larva resembles that of C. iole, but is yellowish green and virtually unmarked, except for the black setae on reddish black pinacula. There is a darker dorsal line, and rose-brown patches occur ventrally. The pupa is grass-green, browner at the flattened fore-end and at the cremaster, suspended as for C. iole, but within a more extensive system of silk webbing on the surface of a leaf. The host-plant was Eugenia (Myrtaceae).
