Cerynea indecisa Walker comb. n.
Acontia? * indecisa* Walker, [1863] 1864, J. Proc. Linn. Soc. (Zool.), 7: 50.
Diagnosis
This is a relatively robust species with largely greenish yellow forewings apart from a marginal, slightly trapezoid area of medium brown that is bordered by a white-edged black line as illustrated. There are two greyish triangles based on the margin that half fill this brown area. There is also an obscure, obtusely angled medial fascia in fawn that is slightly irrorated with black, the bipunctate black discal mark being just distal to the angle.
Taxonomic note
The species was placed in Obana Walker by Poole (1989); see p. 96. The facies is highly unusual, but the male genitalia have features consistent with placement in Cerynea, particularly the structure of the valves.
Geographical range
Borneo, Peninsular Malaysia (Barlow colln), Sulawesi.
Habitat preference
The holotype (OUMNH, Oxford) was collected in Sarawak by A.R. Wallace. There is a second specimen from Sandakan on the coast of Sabah. A third specimen was collected in lower montane forest at 900m on the limestone G. Api during the Mulu survey. Chey (1994) recorded a singleton from a lowland Pinus caribaea plantation near Brumas in Sabah.
