Diagnosis

This and C. punctilinealis have been confused in the past as indicated under punctilinealis Walker. The wings in contentaria are a richer, browner fawn rather than pinkish and may have distinct variegation in the forewing marginal zone, including a darker triangular area in the position of the dark marks described above for omphisalis and melanocephala and that are also seen in some Obana Walker species (p. 96). On the hindwing there is a pale submarginal variably evident that runs approximately straight over its marginal two-thirds. The postmedials are zigzag, faintly blackish with paler edging distad, whereas in  punctilinealis they are more punctate, with white spots irregularly surrounded by black that may form a fascia. There are black dots in the spaces at the margins of both species, but these are right on the margin in contentaria, linked by fine black edging along the margin between them; in punctilinealis they are just submarginal, and usually have a white component on their basal side (the margin itself can be finely edged paler).

Taxonomic note

The holotype of contentaria (OUMNH: 1379) is male and relatively uniform in wing colour, but its genitalia are identical to those of a more variegated male specimen in BMNH (slide 21011) that matches the holotype  of mundicolaria (OUMNH: 1382). The two taxa are therefore brought into synonymy.

Geographical range

Borneo.

Habitat preference

The only specimens seen are the two holotypes and the male specimen referred to in the taxonomic note. All were collected by A.R. Wallace in Sarawak, probably in the lowlands.
