Diagnosis
♂♀ 15-16mm. This and the next four species have very similar facies with five white spots in the black forewings and two on the hindwings. They are distinguished to some extent on characters of the yellow ringing of the abdomen but most particularly on features of the male genitalia. This species has yellow rings at the base of the abdomen and on the sixth segment only. This subspecies differs from the typical race (Java) in lacking yellow rings on most abdominal segments, these being restricted to a basal one and one at two thirds as in the next two species. The male genitalia resemble those of typical wallacei, with small, simple valves and a broad lateral lobe, bearing spines that increase in length distally, to the aedeagus vesica.

Geographical range
Java, Sumatra, Peninsular Malaysia; Borneo.
Habitat preference
Specimens come to light in the understorey of lowland rainforest.
