Diagnosis

The wings have the same ground colour and dark fasciation as those of Z. rorata and Z. intractata, but the white markings are reduced to just the anterior arc of the forewing submarginal; the additional white spot exterior to this fascia on M2 is absent, though there is a pale brown mark in that position. The forewing discal spot is dark as in intractata but smaller and more obscure.

Taxonomic note

The wing facies and the structure of the male genitalia indicate this species should be transferred to Zurobata. It was listed in Autoba by Poole (1989). Dysgnathia  nigropunctata Bethune-Baker (New Guinea) has external features somewhat as in indefinita, but the white submarginal crescent on the forewing is not extended to the margin by a pale mark on M2, and the male genitalia lack the definitive features of Zurobata: the valves are more as in Corgatha species, and the saccus is apically rounded rather than excavate. However, there is a species in Sulawesi (slides 18098, 20847) and Bali (slide 21032) that resembles nigropunctata externally but has male genitalia that indicate it is a Zurobata related to indefinita. The costal process of the valves is distinctly broader, however, and the saccular process is also longer, digitate.

Geographical range

Peninsular Malaysia, Sumatra (HS / ZSM), Borneo.

Habitat preference

Two specimens have been taken in the understorey of primary lowland forest at 170m near the Danum Valley Field Centre. However, three (two in FRC, Sepilok) have been taken in a Paraserianthes plantation at a similar altitude near Brumas, and another (in FRC, Sepilok) was recorded in an area of extremely disturbed secondary forest at 150m near Kionsom. All these records are from Sabah.
