“Zurobata” biarmioides Walker
Homoptera biarmioides Walker, [1863], 1864, J. Proc. Linn. Soc. (Zool.), 7: 83.
Diagnosis
The wings are marked pinkish brown on a pale fawn as illustrated, the pattern atypical of Zurobata. The pinkish brown is most extensive in the marginal areas distal to the postmedials, separated from them by a very narrow band of ground colour. The postmedial is obtusely angled centrally. The discal marks on all wings are transversely elongate patches of ground colour surrounded by pinkish brown.
Taxonomic note
The unique holotype (OUMNH: 1341) is female and has genitalia that are atypical of Aventiinae, with strong apodemes on the eighth segment and several unusual features not seen in Zurobata or any other aventiine genus: a massive antrum to the ductus bursae before a narrow sclerotised section that leads into the corpus bursae; a strongly curved and tapered appendix bursae arising from the base of the corpus bursae; an ovate corpus bursae with a ring of small spines around the base just distal to the openings of the ductus and appendix; this ring of spines is linked to a second one that runs round the lateral and distal margins of the whole corpus distal to the basal ring.
Geographical range
Borneo.
Habitat preference
The species is only known from the holotype, taken in Sarawak by A.R. Wallace, probably in the lowlands.
