Diagnosis
This is a highly variable species, ranging from purely yellow specimens, the hindwings paler, to those with both wings extensively suffused with dark grey: a selection is illustrated. A fairly constant feature is the rather sinuous, diffuse, pale antemedial fascia on the forewing. The species is best diagnosed on features of the male genitalia: the broad, square uncus; the valve shape, deep, with acute apex and strong saccular curvature; the shorter stouter aedeagus. The female lacks a sclerotised tube at the base of the ductus, being strongly fluted and thickened there.
Geographical range
Peninsular Malaysia, Sumatra, Borneo.
Habitat preference
The species is not uncommon in the lowlands and extends with less frequency into montane zones to as high as 1780m.
