Pidorus hilaris Jordan
Pidorus hilaris Jordan, 1907, Gross-Schmett. Erde, 10: 36.
Diagnosis
This and P. splendens Jordan are larger than other Pidorus species found in Borneo, but the forewing has a similar pale band on dark brown. This is relatively more basal in hilaris, which has a bluish basal iridescence to the hindwing as in the female of P. splendens Jordan, but no pale marginal band.
Taxonomic note
Yen et al. (2005) indicated that this and P. splendens Jordan should be transferred to a new genus. Their cladistic analyses indicated a relationship with “Chalcosia” zehma Herrich-Schäffer in their Clade 16, together with two small Chinese genera, Pseudopidorus Yen & Yang and Neochalcosia Yen & Yang. Some preliminary observations on their relationship were presented by Yen & Yang (1997). See also the generic account.
Geographical range
Borneo.
Habitat preference
The species is only known from a female from G. Kinabalu without altitude data.
