Diagnosis

The species can be confused easily with the species discussed under insipida below.

It is best distinguished by the short, acute, spinose harpe on the valve of the male genitalia.

Geographical range

Oriental tropics to Sumatra, Borneo.

Habitat preference

All specimens seen are from lowland localities.

Biology

Bell & Scott (1937, from Mell) stated the larva to be similar to that of M. troglodytus Boisduval: green with a white flecked, dark green dorsal stripe over the abdominal segments, yellow dorsolateral stripes, and, laterally on the abdomen, seven dark green oblique stripes.

The horn is purple with a yellow tip.

The host-plant recorded was Hedyotis (Rubiaceae).
