Lyclenesyne stramena Hampson comb. n.

Diagnosis

The forewing markings are distinctive, particularly the ovate one with an ‘eyebrow’ in the medial zone. The darkening border to the hindwings is also unusual in the genus.

Taxonomic note

The male genitalia have an odd flaplike interior process subapically in the costal zone, and the aedeagus vesica has scobination but no cornuti. The female has two unequal patches of sclerotisation on each side of the seventh segment. The bursa lacks major spining but has a scobinate interior nipple towards the distal end. Placement in Lyclene is therefore questionable.

Borneo, Bali.

Habitat preference

The species is found in lowland forest up to 600m but is uncommon. During the Mulu survey three specimens were taken in each of alluvial forest and forest on limestone.
