Anuga insuffusa Warren

Anuga insuffusa Warren, 1914, Novit. zool. 21: 412.

Diagnosis

The grey forewings with wavy fasciae are as in kobesi but there is no subtornal orange spot and the tornal orange zone of the hindwing is very reduced.

The medial fascia of the hindwing is set distal to the discal dot in insuffusa but passes through it or just basal to it in kobesi. The male genitalia are very similar to those of kobesi but the row of cornuti in the aedeagus vesica numbers four in kobesi, usually less in insuffusa.

Taxonomic notes

A. multiplicans ab. pygatula Strand from Burma and Thailand is incorrectly assigned and may be referable to insuffusa. Dr Kobes has a specimen from Sumatra that may also be insuffusa. Two specimens from high altitude (Bukit Retak in Brunei) are somewhat larger, with paler, more definitely fasciated hindwings below; two males from Sintang, inland from Pontianak, are also of this type.

Geographical range

.** Borneo, Peninsular Malaysia, ?Sumatra, ?Burma and Thailand.
