Diagnosis

♂ 14mm, ♀ 15mm.

The facies is of the repugnans type. The forewing is a very dark green, with basal and apical patches as in the repugnans group. However the former is relatively large (the thorax being a similar pale creamy fawn colour) and the latter relatively small, lacking the arcuate division seen in other species. There is only a single, rather elongate patch more distally on the dorsum. There is a dull ochreous fawn discal spot. The male genitalia have rather short valves, but these are ornamented weakly as in the repugnans group. The aedeagus vesica has two spined bands rather than separated large cornuti.

Holotype ♂

E. SABAH: Brumas, 500 ft. 26.4.1973 (K.M. Guichard), BM noctuid slide 18012.

Paratype

1 ♀ as holotype.

Geographical range

Borneo.

Habitat preference

Both specimens are from an area of lowland forest now cleared for softwood plantations.

Taxonomic Note

Chey (1994) recorded two specimens of R. guichardi as Risoba sp. from lowland secondary forest near Brumas in 1991. S.J. Willott (unpublished data) recorded three specimens from primary and logged lowland forest near the Danum Valley Field Centre. Therefore, all seven known specimens are from lowland forest areas in eastern Sabah.
