Diagnosis
This species and H. subrufa* Bastelberger have the wings grey above with the medial band divided into a costal bilobed section and a small subdorsal circle or dot that is sometimes absent.
H. sternaria* is much larger, a paler grey, usually with a diffuse, oblique, paler band distal to the medial marks. The anterior medial section has the distal lobe smaller than the more basal one; in subrufa they are more or less equal in development. The interior of the medial marks and the basal edge of the hindwing fascia are reddish in subrufa. In subrufa the male genitalia have the digitate process from the valve costa relatively larger and very slender.
Geographical Range
India through S.E. Asia to Sumatra and Borneo.
Habitat Preference
The species is infrequent, found mainly in lowland rainforest of various types.
