Comostola inouei Holloway sp. n.

Comostola enodata Holloway, 1996: 294

Image of [object Object] Holloway ♂

Diagnosis

♂♀ 8-9mm.

This species is very similar in external appearance to chlorargyra and allies, but tends to have more regular marginal beading as mentioned above.

There is some asymmetry in the male genitalia but the valves lack the distal fans of setae seen in the chlorargyra group.

The sacculus of the right valve terminates in a triangular process and lacks the tongue-like central lobe of chlorargyra. The socii are broader basally.

The eighth sternite has three, rather than four, shallow lobes at the margin.

Given the uncertainty in the literature over the identity of this and Comostola chlorargyra Walker (e.g. Prout, 1934, Gross-Schmett. Erde 12: 131), a holotype only is listed, and the distribution based on dissected material alone.

Taxonomic note

Holloway originally described this species as C. enodata.
