Diagnosis

Both this and Calliteara box Holloway are distinctive ashy grey moths, with a darker discal lunule and fasciation on the forewing. They are difficult to distinguish, and identification is best confirmed by reference to the male genitalia, as discussed under Calliteara box Holloway.

Geographical range

Sumatra, Borneo.

Habitat preference

Both this and Calliteara box Holloway are found in similar habitats, montane forests and lowland acid soil forests. During the Mulu survey, cox was taken singly at 250m and more frequently at 900m and 1200m on the limestone G. Api. In Brunei it has been recorded frequently at 1465m and 1618m on Bukit Retak, and at 30m in lowland forest at Labi and in greater frequency at 15m in dry heath forest at Telisai. There is one specimen from 1200m on Mt Dulit, Sarawak.
