Trypanophora producens Walker
Syntomis producens Walker, 1862, J. Proc. Linn. Soc. (Zool.), 6: 88.
Trypanophora festinata Snellen, 1895, Dt. ent. Z. Iris, 8: 131.
Diagnosis
This species has narrower wings than the previous one, with fewer yellow spots, particularly distally, e.g. one spot submarginally on the forewing compared with four or more.
Taxonomic note
This species is misplaced in the genus and is more closely related to a similarly displaced species-pair in Phlebohecta (see pp. 36, 63-4). The male abdomen is very similar, and the genitalia of both have a shallow, slightly bilobed uncus; the valves have the sacculus strongly sclerotised, distinct from the membranous dorsal lobe, and its inner margin is serrate in the Phlebohecta species. The saccus is strong, but less produced in producens. The aedeagus is more robust in producens but typical of the more distal clades.
Geographical range
Borneo, Sumatra, Nias, Peninsular Malaysia (Barlow colln.).
Habitat preference
Bornean material is from the lowlands of Sarawak: the holotype collected by A.R. Wallace and a specimen from Kuching.
