Diagnosis
The species is very similar to martina but distinctly smaller with a generally more uniform forewing and a paler underside that is less constrastedly marked with darker bands. These bands are of equal darkness in martina, but in subrotunda the medial one, flanked by paler bands, is darker than the rest. The male genitalia are much smaller than in martina.
Geographical range
Borneo, Sumatra.
Habitat preference
The original description is from G. Murud in Sarawak, but the species is also frequent between 1500m and 2600m on G. Kinabalu.
Biology
Robinson et al. (2001) noted the larva as feeding on Lithocarpus (Fagaceae).
