Diagnosis
The forewing has a distinctly darker medial band, the inner border of which is angled much closer to the costa than in the next three species. The area of the wing on each side of this band, particularly at its very edge, is delineated with pale mauve tracery. The dark brown submarginal forms a distinct rectangular patch at the apex of the wing, which it approximately bisects, and at the inner end of this patch there is a faintly paler bar; the rest of the submarginal is much finer and more irregular. Males are characterised by a longitudinal pale streak subcostally just distal to the medial band.
Taxonomic note
An externally similar species, S. buruensis Prout, with differences in the male genitalia (Berio & Fletcher, 1958) is found in Sulawesi, the S. Moluccas and Australia (Nielsen et al., 1996).
Geographical range
Himalaya, Borneo, Peninsular Malaysia, Sumatra.
Habitat preference
The species has been recorded infrequently in lowland forest, with single specimens taken at 1000m and 2360m on G. Mulu.
