“Oruza” atriapicata Hampson
Oruza atriapicata Hampson, 1910, Cat. Lepid. Phalaenae Br. Mus., 10: 253.
Diagnosis
The facies is atypical of the genus, a rich buff, the wings with fine, pale, straight, dull yellowish postmedials and faint, dark, irregular, lunulate submarginals. The forewings are rather narrow, and the apical component of the submarginal encloses a black bar that extends to the apex. The discal spot is blackish with a grey centre, elongated obliquely. There are further small blackish marks on the costa. The discal mark on the hindwing is bipunctate, also black.
Taxonomic note
This species is retained in Oruza pending discovery of a more satisfactory placement. The genitalia are also atypical. The male abdomen has long, slender apodemes on the eighth tergite, and the genitalia have a massive, rather square saccus and elongate, narrow valves with a subbasal costal process only. The female genitalia have unusual slits in the eighth segment on either side of the ostium, and the corpus bursae has an unusual lateral bulge centrally.
Geographical range
Borneo, Peninsular Malaysia, Sumatra.
Habitat preference
The species is only known in Borneo from the holotype from Sandakan on the coast of Sabah and two (in FRC, Sepilok) from a Eucalyptus softwood plantation near Brumas in the lowland interior (Chey, 1994; as Eublemma castanea Hampson).
